With peace in our hearts, the family of Ervin William Deschene announce his passing at the Drew Nursing Home on Monday, April 29.

The son of the late Edward and Mary (Morrissey) Deschene of Grand Falls, Ervin was born June 12, 1929.

Ervin grew up, married, and raised his family in Grand Falls. After retirement from the NB Power Commission, Ervin and Betty moved to Sackville to be closer to family. An avid fishermen, he traveled numerous times to the Northwest Territories to fish on the shores of Great Bear Lake and to explore the Mackenzie Mountains. He enjoyed dancing, playing guitar, telling stories, and having a good laugh. His pursuit of perfection was especially apparent in the organization of his tools in his garage and by his level green lawn. His car cleaning skills were unbeatable and the envy of his sons in law. Ervin was a kind hearted man and gave generously to family, friends, and even strangers but his greatest gift was the love he gave to his family.

Ervin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Betty) Elizabeth Hansen; three daughters; Janet (Dara) of Irishtown, NB and children, Jonathan (Alicia) and Anna; Carolyn (William) of Sackville, NB and daughter Kate; Patty (Clyde) of Fort Smith, NT and children, Carolyn and Kathleen; and one son, Stephen (Heidi) of Norman Wells, NT and children, Dustin, Bonnie and Stevie; sisters, Mae (Enoil) Bourgoin and Elnora Pike; brother, Doug (Phyllis) ; sisters-in-law Phyllis (Floyd) Rowe and Shirley McLaughlin (Phil); brothers-in-law Lewis (Sheila) Hansen and Davis (Janice) Hansen and by Carrol Hansen and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by an infant son, sister-in-law Helen Hansen, and brothers-in-law Paul McLaughlin, Hollie Green and Leander Pike.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (364-8188). There will be a gathering for family and friends Wednesday evening between 7-9 at the home of William and Carolyn Bembridge, 24 Weldon Street. The funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2 pm from St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, 63 Charlotte Street, Sackville, with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Rosary St. Vincent’s Catholic Cemetery, Sackville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ervin may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.

She was 80 years of age.

Born in Upper Sackville, N.B. on March 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ethel (Sears) McPhee.

Phyllis was a special and gifted lady in more ways than we can express, and most of all, found great joy in knitting sweaters for many years and more recently, teddy-bears and finger puppets which were delivered to the I.W.K.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Raymond (Sonny) and by her children, Kim, Kirk and Kris. Phyllis is also survived by her sister, Peg Dennison and her extended family in Ontario.

Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brother Jim McPhee and by her sister, Rae Ripley.

The family would like to thank neighbors and friends for their kind words and offers of support. We also extend appreciation to Dr. Mujoomdar of the Moncton Hospital for his insight and initiative, and to Dr. Milne and Brit for their care and candor during Phyllis’s stay at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

As she had requested, there will be no visitation or funeral service and the cremation she wished has been professionally and graciously arranged by Erin of Campbell’s Funeral Home.
