Chester was 82 years of age.

Born on April 3, 1929 in Midgic, N.B. he was the son of the late Bertha (Mitton) and Havelock Noiles.

Chester was a lifetime member of the Lion’s Club International and served as Past President of the Sackville Lion’s Club in 1990. Chester received the Melvin Jones Award for Humanitarian Services for the Lion’s Club International Foundation, which is the most prestigious award given by the Lion’s Club. Dad was a hard worker and worked in the woods as a young man with his father-in-law Milton Phinney, until being employed with CNR as a Track Foreman from 1948 until his retirement in 1987 with 39 years of loyal service. Dad’s work didn’t stop after his retirement. He loved working in his garden, which was to be admired, cutting wood on his woodland, fishing, hunting, bowling and, of course, playing cards with his good buddies at the camps. Dad’s greatest joy was spending time with mom, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad was a social butterfly and a real people person with a smile and wave for all. Dad will be mostly remembered for his hardy laugh and bear hugs. He loved to dance and enjoyed the music at the Doncaster’s Music Barn. He had a heart as big as all outdoors and everyone was always welcome in our home for tea or otherwise, a meal, or just good conversation.

Chester will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Audrey (Phinney) Noiles; two daughters, Marlene (Jim) Edmonds and Karen (Henri) Leger and his son, Randy (Cecile Hachey), all of Sackville, N.B.; two sisters, Kay Ward and Margaret Beal, both of Sackville, N.B.; brother, Russell (Jeanette) Noiles of PEI; three brothers-in-law, Jack (Carol) Phinney of Sackville, N.B. , Wallace (Kay) of Edmonton, AB and Tom Phinney of St. Catherine’s Ontario; sister-in-law, Joan Alder of Sackville, N.B.; nine grandchildren, Robyn Edmonds (Chris Hicks), Robert (Amanda) Edmonds, Jaime Edmonds, Melisa (Richard Crocker), Matthew (Robyn) Noiles, Christopher Noiles, Brianne Noiles, Lacy Maloney and Victoria Everill; ten great-grandchildren, Tristan, Braegha, MacKenzie, Ashlee, Mylee, Wyatt, Alyssa, Ashton, Spencer and Serenity and by many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his sons, Raymond in 1997 and Brian in 2005; infant brother, Lester; sisters, Hazel and Lillian (Sherman) Cole; brother, Ken (Mary); mother and father-in-law, Blanche and Milton Phinney and by his brother-in-law, Fred Phinney.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Visiting hours will take place at the funeral home on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Lion’s Club will hold a memorial service at 6:45 pm on Friday evening. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2 pm with Rev. Hal Lowther officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Midgic Cemetery.

Versatility and strong determination led Sandra to success in a range of ventures including a farm in Upper Sackville that nurtured her family of five children, a daycare that created bonds with generations of children, and a Bed & Breakfast full of humour and companionship. She possessed a lifelong passion for learning: earning an Honours degree in Physics from McMaster University, working as a school teacher in Collingwood, Ontario, studying classical languages at Mount Allison University, and being a reader of theology and scripture.

Committed to her faith and her deep loves, Sandra was a joyful chorister, community service activist, avid gardener, collector of fine art, creator of unique hand crafts, proponent of local theatre.

Sandra was a well-recognized figure in the community: biking out to Middle Sackville for dance class, or Saturday morning shopping at the Farmer’s Market, walking Shalom and Webster through the waterfowl park, or with children in tow at the post office.

Sandra was predeceased by her beloved son James, and lovingly remembered by her children: John(Maria Meraz), Deborah (Bill) MacLean, Andrew (Natasha Beaudin), Rebekah (Paul Carpenter), her grandchildren: Jacklyn Tickie (Chris Sadoway), Cassandra and Tyler LeBlanc, Sara and Miguel Cant-Meraz, Joe Carpenter, her great-grandchildren: Hannah LeBlanc, Eleni Sadoway.

“Wow, what a ride!”

A donation in Sandra’s memory can be made through Campbell’s Funeral Home to Live Bait Theatre, of which she was the Chair, or the Sackville Community Association, through which she offered vital support to those in need.

Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Sandra’s life at a visitation in her home at 30 Squire Street, Sackville, February 23, 4 – 8 pm, and a funeral service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Sackville, February 24, 11 am.
